UPSTAIRSDOWNTOWN at Main street now
Dan Carmody and Mike Jackson demystify the redevelopment process of vacant upper floors—a persistent problem in America’s historic and older commercial districts—using a typical Main Street building. The two industry experts in design and development examined the architectural, construction, regulatory, and economic variables that must be understood and addressed for a successful renovation project.
During the May 2016 session, Main Street managers explored the key factors that can “make or break” a project, with a special emphasis on residential use and small-scale buildings. Using case studies, attendees participated in an interactive session that determined reuse options and created a financing plan to test its feasibility.
